HELLO, AND WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

My name is Claire and by day I'm a school science technician and new mum (currently on maternity leave!). In the evenings, once the munchkin is asleep, I love to sew, make and create all sorts of cute (mainly) felty goodness and then ramble about it here in my own little corner of the world.

I welcome custom work and orders, just give me a shout if there is something you'd like making! :)

I do put a lot of hard work into everything I make so please do not use any content from this website without contacting me first.

Those of you who have been reading my blog for a little while will know I have a mild (honest, it is only mild) obsession with buttons, so today when the postman squeezed a few parcels through the door I was excited to see one of them was from Sarah's shop!

A lovely pack of mixed flower buttons (they are just so yummy!) and you can just make out at the top a pack of orange polka dot buttons. The flowery ones are going to be sewn onto my 'flower garden' needle books to match with my flower garden pincushions. The polka dots are for something else(!).

View Article  Card making tutorial!
I know what you're thinking. Why is there a card making tutorial on a mainly sewing blog? Well, It does involve a sewing machine! Today I am going to show you how to make a numbered birthday card like this one:

You will need: A blank card and envelope, some textured paper (I used mulberry paper), a scrap of card for a template, scrap of felt, glue, scissors, sewing machine, ruler and pencil.

1. Using the ruler, carefully tear a square (or rectangle if you've used a rectangle card!) a little smaller than the card you are using.

2. Glue the square of paper to the front of your blank card. I use a clear paper glue for this and just glue the edges of the mulberry paper.

3. Make a template of your number(s) with the scrap of card. My number is about 7cm tall. Draw around your template back-to-front and cut out.

4. Place your felt number the right way round on the front of your card and carefully sew around the edge - I have used about a 1/8th inch seam. Make sure your card is opened out - you don't want to sew it closed!

5. Cut off the ends of the thread and TA-DAAAAAA! You'll have a lovely handmade felty birthday card that everyone will love!

If you really don't feel like making your own cards then you can buy custom numbered birthday cards from my shop. Just let me know what colours and numbers you would like!

There are some great projects in issue 2 which is a complete guide to fabric and needlecraft, so right up my street! I've added a few things to my to-do list already! :)

I'm going to try and work on a mini tutorial for you for later in the week, so do come back. It will involve a sewing machine!

I was ever so excited last week - and I haven't even shown you these yet! Moo.com and Etsy had teamed up last month to offer a free pack of Moo business cards to everyone, but they do come with Moo and Etsy advertising on them. I completely forgot about it until right at the end of the month so just managed to get my pack!

Here are the fronts - you can see the advertising at the bottom.

And here is the back! I made them to match my new banner :)

If I'd of thought about it I'd of done exactly what Megan of Maximum Rabbit Designs did with her free set of business cards! She's a very clever lady! I shall give them out as if the back is in fact the front!!!!! :)

Not quite a rainbow blanket yet, but I'm S....L....O....W....L....Y getting there. It's a tad late now as Lovely lovely Joy had baby William on the 23rd April, and weighing in at 10lb 9oz too!!! He already doesn't look newborn!

I'm hoping to get it finished at the end of this month so I can get it posted off to New Zealand to keep William warm as they get to winter over there! Congratulations Joy and Danny, he's a fab looking fellow and we can't wait to meet him!!!!!!!!!! :)

From now on I am officially NOT KNITTING any more baby blankets, unless of course you tell me at least 3 years in advance! ;) I may be pursuaded to knit a hat or two or possibly a little jumper!

One of my lovely baby friends asked me to make her a custom iphone case for her returning to work (today!). Isn't it lovely?? (if I do say so myself). Charlotte took the photograph for me as I completely forgot to!

Can you tell I'm still slightly obsessed with button flowers?

View Article  Nerd Thursday: Fun and Games

We're not all about sewing and science in our house, that's just me. Hubby works in the games industry so we have a vested interest in games. Computer, console and board! Personally I'm more of a Nintendo girl when it comes to console games and PB (pre-baby) we were known to while away many an hour playing World of Warcraft (I'm a level 80 human mage!!!).

Here are a few of our board games - not a patch on some of our friends board games collections(!). They are all great and I'm rubbish at most of them. If there was one game I had to recommend it would be Mamma Mia (aka 'the pizza game') - it's a fab little card game small enough to pack for holidays! Each player places ingredient cards down until they think they can make the pizza from their recipe cards - the winner is the one who completes the most pizzas! Again, I'm rubbish at it but its fun and will be going on holiday with us again this year :)

Our newest game is bananagrams! It's brilliant, like scrabble only faster, much more fun, you don't need a board AND it comes in a banana shaped bag! EVERYONE should own it! This one is going to be packed wherever we go this year! We're having a bananagrams house championship and as it stands after 3 evenings play its 10 all. If there is one thing you do today, let it be play a board game!
